  7. Since we at HP may have inadvertently started the latest frenzy of version 
  8. speculation, it seems appropriate for me to put an end to it:

  10. THERE ARE NO VERSION F HP48SX ROM's IN EXISTENCE ANYWHERE, AND HENCE NO 
  11. HP 48SX CALCULATORS LATER THAN VERSION E.

  13. This unequivocal statement does not imply that there will or will not 
  14. ever be a new 48 ROM version.

  16. How did the most recent rumor get started?  Well, whenever we release 
  17. a ROM version, we routinely increment the version letter by one in the 
  18. simulator versions we use here at HP.  This helps us keep track of 
  19. experimental versions, and distinguish them and any associated 
  20. software from the released versions.  It happens that the PDL transfer 
  21. library was developed on a simulator, and we simply overlooked the fact 
  22. that it has a version F header which might set off sirens in the user 
  23. community.  The library will work perfectly well on any version HP 48--in case 
  24. you haven't noticed, all 48 software works on all 48 versions (at least 
  25. I've never heard of any that doesn't, not counting the effects of 
  26. explicit bug fixes).
